YCL forces 4 headmasters to resign

Ekantipur 16 May 2008

BY DAMODAR NEUPANE

GORKHA, May 16 - YCL has compelled at least four school headmasters in Gorkha district to resign from their posts and the Maoist youth wing is forcing other headmasters affiliated with the Nepal Teachers' Association (NTA) to follow suit.

Among them, one headmaster has been compelled to resign from the teaching profession itself, according to the Nepali Congress.

Toya Raj Gurung, headmaster of Gyan Jyoti Secondary School at Lapsibot VDC, a two-day walk from district headquarters, resigned as headmaster and teacher on Wednesday.

Similarly, school headmasters Indra Kumar Mishra of Himalaya Secondary School at Simjung VDC, Jani Ghale of Himalaya Secondary School at Barpak VDC and Raghunath Adhikari of Chaturmala Secondary School have also resigned, allegedly following pressure from the YCL.

"I resigned as I did not like the activities of the YCL. The YCL harassed teachers, other staff and the management committee of the school. I did not like that, so I resigned," Gurung told the Post over the phone.

Gurung, a supporter of the NTA, which is close to Nepali Congress, further said that he thought resigning was better than watching the pathetic situation at the school. Gurung is a teacher for 18 years.

The YCL was reportedly angry with Gurung since May 30 when the latter closed the school to protest the YCL beating up school teacher Bishnu Dutta Adhikari that day.

A junior teacher close to Maoists has been appointed headmaster of Himalaya Secondary School at Simjung VDC. Rup Lal Shrestha, a lower secondary-level teacher, has succeeded Mishra as headmaster. Mishra, who hails from Rautahat, had been with  the school for 12 years.

The Nepali Congress said that the Maoist youth wing has exerted pressure on many school management committees that are close to the Nepali Congress to also resign. The Nepali Congress has accused the Maoists of forcing chairpersons of school management committees to accept the resignations of the headmasters.

Maoist district secretary Prakash, however, said that he did not have information about  forced resignations of headmasters.

YCL beats up teacher

Meanwhile, the YCL beat up Rameshwor Pokharel, a math teacher at Nepane Secondary School, Kerabari, after accusing him of campaigning for the Nepali Congress during CA elections.

Besides, Pokharel, who has sustained serious injuries to his head, has been warned to leave the school. Pokharel has been teaching at the school for the last three years and was elected president of the Free Students' Union at Gorkha Campus on behalf of the Nepal Students' Union.

Maoist cadres kill a capital resident

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, May 16 - Maoist cadres killed Ram Hari Shrestha, a resident of Koteshwar in the Capital.

The Maoist conceded that the Shrestha, who was also the chairman of local Tole development committee, was killed after abduction by his own party activists.

Locals of Koteshwar disrupted the traffic in the area on Friday afternoon following the airing of the news.

The Maoist admitted that Shreshta was abducted from Santimarga in the capital on April 27 and taken to Maoist third division cantonment at Shaktikhor in Chitwan district and was killed on May 10 and thrown into Narayani River.

A group of Maoists led by Maoist third division commander Kali Bahadur Magar ‘Bibidh’ had abducted Shrestha from Santimarga on charge of stealing Rs 1.7 million from their room.

Maoist cadres including Bibidh had been staying at Shrestha’s house on rent.

The Maoist cadres told Ramila, who reached Shaktikhor today to bring back Shrestha, that after he was severely beaten up.

Three brigade commanders of the Maoist third division-- Ganga Ram Thapa, Keshab Adhikari and Govinda Batala—thrashed him to death, Superintendent of Police at Chitwan District Police Office Puskal Raj Regmi informed.

The Maoists have handed over Batala to the district police, while the other two are at large.

Alliance impossible unless Maoists stop anarchic activities: UML

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, May 16 - CPN-UML activists Friday ruled out the possibility of forging alliance with the CPN-Maoist as long as its activities continue with their anarchic activities.

Speaking at a programme organised  to mark the memory day of late UML leaders Madan  Bhandari and  Jib Raj Ashrit at the party central office at Balkhu in the capital today, newly elected UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal suggested the Maoist to create an environment of trust as it was essential to move ahead by working together.

The UML General Secretary stated that the end of monarchy is certain and warned that the people will destroy those who try to hinder the process.

Likewise, former UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal alleged that the Maoists failed to create an environment of trust though it was necessary to have coordination among the parties to fight the impediments against the change.

Nepal also said that the anarchic activities of the Maoist are likely to pose a serious threat to institutionalise the achievement of the peopole’s movement.

Family displaced after YCL threat on life

PR

PANCHTHAR, May 15 - After Maoist's Young Communist League (YCL) cadres allegedly threatened to kill one Nar Bahadur Gurung of Chyangthapu VDC, he has come to district headquarters Phidim on Thursday along with five members of his family.

Gurung, the CPN-UML village committee secretary, said that he chose to flee after YCL activists issued threats following the April 10 Constituent Assembly election. Maoist and UML cadres had clashed in the village after the CA poll.

Reports of YCL's alleged excesses have been pouring in from across the country after the CA election. There was a brief lull in their 'excesses' in view of the constituent assembly election after CPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal asked the party's youth wing to become 'Gandhi' for a week. Following clashes, the Maoists started frequenting Gurung's house searching for him. However, he had been hiding at relatives' places since then. According to Gurung's wife, they finally decided to leave their house after YCL cadres threatened to abduct all family members for failing to present him  before the Maoists.

UML district committee member Raj Kumar Bhandari claimed that YCL cadres were threatening other UML activists as well.

Maoist district in-charge Harka Nembang, however, asserted that their cadres could not have threatened since an agreement was already reached during a meeting of district level leaders of political parties.

Anti-Maoist Protest in Koteshwor After Murder

THT Online ( The Himalayan Times )

Kathmandu, May 16

Enraged residents blocked roads and held anti-Maoist demonstrations in Koteshwor area on Friday after allegations by a woman that her husband was abducted and killed by Maoists in a camp. Ramila Shrestha led the protesters, carrying a photograph of her husband, Ram Hari Shrestha, who, she alleged, was killed by the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers in their Shaktikhor cantonment in Chitwan district. Ramila said PLA soldiers and leaders, including a commander known as Bibidh, had stayed at her residence in Koteshwor.
However, there was a dispute between the Maoists and her husband following allegations of theft levelled against him.
Ram Hari was accused of either having a hand in the disappearance of a large sum of money from the room in which the Maoists stayed. He was said to have been abducted from the city about three weeks ago and taken to the Shaktikhor cantonment. Ramila told the media on Friday that when she went to the camp Thursday to ask about her husband’s whereabouts, Bibidh told her that he died after being beaten up and his body was thrown into the Narayani river.
She also alleged that though the murder had been brought to the notice of Maoist chairman Prachanda, who is also the supreme commander of the PLA, he had taken no action against the persons involved.

This is very shameful and barbaric act. Even if the person is guilty why not they use the legal procedure, why PLA needs to take Mr. Shrestha to their camp and beat him. I am very sorry for Mrs. Shrestha who lost her beloved one.

Since Prachanda is the supreme commandor of the PLA, he should take a moral responsibility. The case needs to be investigated and the culprits need to be prosecuted. We nepali people need all culprits to be prosecuted through  legal procedure not through the bloody hands of Maoist's Kangaroo type court or whatever. If such thing repeatedly happens, then what is the difference between Rukmangat Katuwal and Prachanda, both are supreme commandor of PLA and NA? If Prachanda wants to run the country he should resign from PLA immediately, otherwise Nepali people would not vote Maoist in two years from now.. Maobadi lai chetana bhaya..

How the hell these maoist earned 17 lakh and rented. They must be doing some very attractive highly paid job.

So Guess what. if the cadre has so much money. How much Gundaraj Prachande will have.

I would like to join flourishing YCL and have some share of the pie. I think all Nepalese should join YCL and get benefitted.

Yes you are right and there was rumour in Nepal that he went to Switzerland to deposit millinos od dollars that they have looted during the peoples war.

And one thing the government used to give them 2 karor each month to feed their army, and when they were asked to give the "hisaab kitaab" to government they used to say that

their party do not have the provision of keeping hisaab kitaab on so small amount given by the government. God only knows what will happen once they start running Nepal government.

Mr. Maclovn' and Bathroomcoffe,

Explain the activities of YCL then. I am not supporting anyone, all I am saying is "Just fking stop this kinds of violence". I am not NC supporter neither UML, but YCL shouldn't be like "Pashu pati ko Sande". People wanted to see change that's why they voted Maoists and here you go, they showed that they are just like NC, UML and RPP.

McLovin....I dont mean to say that...Wham I am trying to say is....Maoists are still continuing their junglee behavior and some people here in sajha says they are right whatever they do....Being a human, we should figure out and say what is right and what is wrong....I am just pointing that out...I don't really want NC or UML to lead the country at least for now when they have lost the election so badly but yeah, Maoists who are still terrorizing and intimidating innocent Nepalese yet, must change their behavior before they take over the government....Hope you understand me coz here are couple bastards in this sajha who understands me but still try to fight with me coz i dont support the terrorists.....

Thanks K6sathi....and also i agree completely wid Bathroom coffee, nepali baby 403, 3x, Aman and Harkabahadur.....you guys are great since you can point out maoists mistakes freely....see now there will be some comments from these maoists bastards,,....

My point is, if they want to form a government, dissolve PLA and YCL first. We don't need violence anymore. It's worst than Mandales.
