USCIS has said that they received more than 20K applications for the master's quota. So unlike in the previous years, the chance of getting H1B visa for master's graduates is withering. Undergrads/bachelors' can join university to pursue master's degree, but what we master's are gonna do? I think this is the best opportunity and excuse to return to Nepal. Ki kaso ho sathiharu ho?

good luck to all guys who have applied for H1B under MBA. even its random pick up there is a good odd for MBA.

USCIS Reaches FY 2009 H-1B Cap

WASHINGTON â€“ U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that it has received enough H-1B petitions to meet the congressionally mandated cap for fiscal year 2009.  USCIS has also received more than 20,000 H-1B petitions filed on behalf of persons exempt from the cap under the “advanced degree” exemption.   Before running the random selection process, USCIS will complete initial data entry for all filings received during the filing period ending on April 7, 2008.   Due to the high number of petitions, USCIS is not yet able to announce the precise day on which it will conduct the random selection process.

USCIS will carry out the computer-generated random selection process for all cap-subject petitions received.  USCIS will select the number of petitions needed to meet the caps of 65,000 for the general category and 20,000 under the “advanced degree” exemption limit. USCIS will reject, and return filing fees for all cap-subject petitions not randomly selected, unless found to be a duplicate.   USCIS will handle duplicate filings in accordance with the interim final rule published on March 24, 2008 in the Federal Register.

The agency will conduct the selection process for “advanced degree” exemption petitions first.    All “advanced degree” petitions not selected will be part of the random selection process for the 65,000 limit.

Total applications for master's quota should not exceed 25K. Last year, USCIS received 20K applications in one month. Even if the number of graduates increased by 20% (that is too high I believe), it should not exceed 24K. So the odd of getting H1B is approximately 83% (= 20/24). This is still a good chance. In the event you fall beyond 83%, you can either think about PhD or go back to Nepal.  The laler is the best option I guess.

It is also likely that USCIS will select more than 85K applicants as some of the applicants from India are likely to be denied for entry VISA when they go for stamping. So chances are still high (around 90%)!

For matser's quota people who have an american degree will only be counted so for 20,000 quota people who have a degree from india or else where is not counted. But the good news i heard was so many people have applied 2/ 3 time for that quota so if they take our duplicate filing i think chances will increase.. lets pray for good
