Dear Friend,

I have a sister who completed a 3 years Bachelor in Business Administration and pursuing her study in Masters in Finance (at TU, Nepal) and working as an accountant  at an export company for 2 years. Her basic mathematics is not so bad because she somes from science background in Intermediate level. She is interested to pursue her further study at US universitites in finance or accounting either, but we do not have any clue how to proceed or which level she should apply at US universitites, whether she should look for Masters level or Undergraduate level?  Any feedback would be appreciated. In US market, which field either finance or accounting would be easy to find a job for a girl after completion of her study here?  She is also interested to appear in US CPA. Or is there any easy way to get admission here?

Though it's my personal understanding, a student with 3 year bachelor degree from Nepal can't get admission directly to a Masters Degree in USA. I've heard that couple of Universities accept some credit transfer while some of the universities I spoke to told me that they don't even accept credit transfer. A 3 year bachelor degree from Nepal can earn about 40 credits here whereas an undergrad needs total 124 credit to complete it. I suggest her to complete her Masters and apply to Masters again so that you don't loose much time.

Ambition,

thanks for your infos. In my personnel opinion, getting admission at masters level becomes more tougher and difficult for TU certificates, because they usually look for GRE or GMAT score, don't u think so? Should I advice her for undergraduate level? Are you sure that only 40 credits they award for TU 3 years bachelor level?

Use WES (An evaluation organization that awards credits for foreign courses to universities here)...A few years ago, someone I know personally did her evaluation through WES and she ended up getting all 3 years knocked off her Bachelors here!  It only took a year more.  However, her degree was from India...Might be or might not be the same from Nepal...Best to apply and call them directly.

Kc_japan,

I am in the same field as she is thinking of pursuing her further studies. I would suggest her to complete her MBA there then to take IBT and GMAT (at least 550). But remember they just dont look at any particular schore as you have said in previous post. Depending on the type and quality of school they look for a average student in overall. So have to have average undergraduate GPA, IBT,GMAT and work experience.

Otherwise, she will lose 2-3 yrs completing bachelors as they dont take 3 yrs BBA here. Then if she wants to have CPA try for some business school (accrediated) that offers MBA wiht accounting as a major.

Finding job depends on individual capability rather than gender, so it depends what your sis is comfortable studying and what she is capable of.

Hope this helps you !

Sampada

Please, first finish your MBA at TU and then apply for masters in USA. Since, you are already enrolled for masters at TU, it will be goood for you. It will take time for TOEFL and GRE . Meanwhile, you will be completting your study too. Look for reasonable colleges and colleges where there is high possibility of getting CPT after you finish your 2 semester. Studying in USA is hard and for finance and business major it's really hard to get an assistanship. So concentrate for the TOEFL and GMAT exam.

Please, look for colleges with good intern oppourtinity so that you can get job after your complete your study.
