well it seems like my CD drive is a little mental.. it works sometimes and it wont work most of the time. The thing is if i put a CD in, it wont read it and sometimes it does, i think it is dirty and needs to get cleaned, but i have no cleaner or even if i buy a CD cleaner, it wont respond right? and where is the lens of the CD drive located? I cant notice it, I wanna clean it up thats why.

I is had dem same probilam. I is not find no solusion.
But my fada told I that we is needs to convert our probilams into advantage and useful.
My dem Compooter CD give same probilam 3 year ago.
It work and it again not work. It make I mad mad.

Finally I is gibe up and now I is not use no CD

But dem CD drive I is still use. It very useful everyday

You can buy CD cleaners anywhere these days. If you are close to walmart, radio shack, office depot or any retail store will have it.

You can buy the CD drive cleaner. The problem could be related to Dirt, could be the driver, could be the hardware itself. you won't know until you buy the cleaner. But i doubt it could fix it. If you have the tray eject in your cd drive, you can't really reach and clean the lens. and even if you do, don't try to clean the lens of the drive, you probably would damage it. like shiv said, buy the cleaner, it looks like a simple CD-ROM with brushes attached to its bottm part where lens reads the data.

CD drive doesn't work you mean, the disc doesn't spin at all?
If the disc doesn't spin at all, then it could be software or the hardware. not lens!

Like redstone suggested it could be the hardware. When you press the eject button does it respond, or can you eject it from windows, if you can then you might have to repalce the CD Drive. If you do not know how to do it the computer stores can do it for you, it will cost you less than $20 but might charge you somewhere between 15-50 dollars and it takes about 5 minutes to repalce a CD drive.

when i press the eject button, it ejects and even when i right click on DC drive and click eject, it works and it blinks too plus it makes noise for a while and then nothing happens :( and plus it sometimes incidientally works now you tell me, should i get a cleaner or replace the CD drive?

Update your Driver. What is your Make and Model of the CD-ROM, go to the website, look under support or downloads. and update the driver. see what happenes!!

Windows automatically detects and installs the driver for the CD-Rom.

It might also be a bad CD, try different CDs and see if it works. Try the same CDs in a different comuter. If none of the CD work than you have to replace the CD Drive.

If you are trying to read a DVD on a CD drive, it will also do what you wrote above, make sure you are not trying to read a DVD on a CD rom drive.

Not really. It does detect and install drivers for most of the drivers. but sometimes, the drivers are old. Updated could make a difference. and windows will provide you with updated drivers, once in a blue moon. i don't really rely on windows "AUTOMATIC UPDATES" and shitty service for driver update. I'd rather go with Company's Updates.
but crap, i still use windows :(
