Soldiers kill 6 people protesting rape in Morang

KATHMANDU, April 26 - Army on Wednesday opened fire at protesters at Belbari of Morang district following Tuesday's rape and murder of a woman, and killed six of them.
According to our correspondent, five army men guarding the repeater tower of Nepal Telecom had committed a mass rape of a 22 year old mother of two yesterday night.

At least three people were injured in the firing.

Some 10,000 protesters picketed the Area Police Office and Joint Security Base Camp at Belbari.

King can still play some consipiracy to divide parties and still hang on to the crown, but people of Nepal (not those old netas) have to be careful...

This is not the first time I have heard of Army and Police committing such heinous and egregious acts. It's just that lot of the times, they just go unreported.

It would not be too much of a stretch of imagination to think that those two foreign women who went missing and later found dead in Kakani in the designated Army area were also raped and murdered by the Army men.

#1. Those rapists should be brought to justice. They should get the most severe punishment possible.

#2. Those armymen who fired upon the people and murdered five should also be punished severely.

#3. The commanders (officers) of those armymen should be thoroughly punished as well because, whether they directly participated or not in the rape and shootings, they are responsible for the conduct of the men under them.

#4. Army and Police as a whole need to be overhauled and proper ethics/sensitivity training should be imposed. These kind of brutal acts are institutionalized as was seen so frequently during the protest. No wonder people believe the police and army are enemies.
