Manang Hospital

MANANG , NOV 06 - With a target of making the medical facility easily accessible for the rural people of Manang, a well equipped hospital is going to be constructed at Thochhe of Manang district. The hospital is being constructed at the initiation of Dr. Devi Gurung, a native of Manang who currently resides in Saint Louis state of the United States.

Dr. Gurung said that the land for the hospital has been finalised and construction work will begin next year. Gurung along with ten foreign doctors has been conducting free health camps in Manang. As part of that campaign, a two-day camp was organised at Thochhe last week. Patients were facilitated with the ENT, abdominal, dental and gynecological treatments.

Approximately 600 locals from Thochhe, Dharapani, Tachhey, Chammey and Bagarchhap were given service in a health camp conducted in Prakash Jyoti Higher Secondary School.

According to an American physician Cindy Bitter, there is prevalence of abdominal and intestinal problems among the villagers due to food habits and lack of regular medical checkup.

The camp was organized by the Himalayan family Health Care Project. Along with Gurung, John Williamson(board chairman of the project), Dr. Rick Bowen, Peter Pollak, Charity Kaiser, Howard Synenberg, Judy Garson, Erick Lee, Nicholas Busch, Brandon Owens and Daniel Daniczyk were other doctors who offered their service in the camp. Gurung, founding president of Himalayan Family, said that the camp was held as the rural people were facing difficulties without easy access to health facility since last year.

Gurung, the first PHD holder from the district had a hard life before leaving for America. He used to work as the helper in a restaurant of Thamel, Kathmandu, 30 years ago
