Probably one of the best place to live in the US (esp for us - Nepali!). However, it is expensive.Think it is one of the least recession affected metropolitan area. So, good place to find good jobs. You can target to find a job in MD / DC or VA regardless of where you live (as long as you don't mind of about 1 hr commute). That's the best part.

Thought I gave some...:) Anyways, for commuting it depends where you live and where your job is. If you find a job in DC, you will be okay with commuting via Metro (Rail). In fact, for people who have job in DC, Metro / Train ride is the best option. ( I use it every day too as I work in the middle of DC!). Parking in DC is a bit expensive too and hard to find.. Costs about $18-$20/ day. And during rush hour, you can't predict how long it takes to get to your destination. But if you find a job somewhere else, you will probably need a car.
Living is expensive but pretty good for international people. If you say you are from Nepal, everyone goes like 'oh yeah? I have a good nepali friend and his/her name is....". There are many nepali people living in the area too...Heard there there are more than 30K...
