Can a guy and a gal ever be best friends in reality? Wot's your take on this?
After having come across several situations, today I'm thinking that a guy and a gal can't be best friends. For a gal, it's so easy to be misinterpreted and misconstrued. Often her actions can be taken as suggestive. And one fine day, all of a sudden your so called "good" or "best" guy friend may end up proposing you and you don't know how to handle the situation at all....
As I was growing up, I used to think why can't a gal and a guy be best friends? After all its all a matter of understanding and being open minded. But now, I don't think the same anymore......wor's ur take on this?

I have a pretty serious hunch that the concept of Kuch Kuch Hota Hain(1998) was derived from the movie My Best Friend's Wedding (1997). I acknowledge that the story-lines are completely different. Anyways, both deal with deep friendship between hormone-laden male and female counterparts.

Why not? The friendship is also a kind of love. If there is belief, safety, respect, responsibility and understanding in between two friends (girl and boy), of course they can be ‘GOOD & BEST ‘friend for ever. BTW, I have some …I feel lucky myself to be their friend. When we’re together, it is really auspicious moment for us.

well can't really speak for others but i will speak for myself and since i have sworn to speak truth and only truth in sajha (:P), i believe, to a great extent, i do epitomize, the mentality of most of the men out there.

so here's my take on it:

YES! men and women can JUST be friends (very good friends) ALTHOUGH, as billy crystal pointed out in "when the harry met sally", i don't deny the possibility of the intrusion of this strong emotion called "sex" in it.

i have quite a few girl friends (or friends who are girls rather :P) and i swear on gita/bible/kuran (or u name it), i share a remarkable camaraderie with most of them that is devoid of any sexual attraction.

BUT (and this is not a small one), with FEW, i have fantasized (in my wildest dream ni pheri :P) having a playful, very, very emotional sexual intercourse and i don't regret it because this once-in-a-while emotion has ONLY helped me (or US rather, coz i believe they do fantasize the same about me at times :P) to strengthen the otherwise very sanctimonious bond between us.

This is an age old question like what came first the chicken or the egg.

The question is really simple, 'can a guy and gal be best friends?'

well anyone can be best friends, but perhaps the question should include 'without sex coming in between'. Which then would add a totally different dimension. Perhaps girls can be so naive to thing that "sex doesn't have to come in between friendship" but unfortunately they are talking for themselves; for no man can resist the temptation of thinking of sex between them and their supposed 'friends' who happen to be of the opposite sex.

Perhaps it's due to their nature. Most of the time males are more 'needy' about sex than females are. It's in their genes to masturbate more too. So girls don't be too naive and think that your so called 'best friend' (who happens to be a guy) has not thought about you during his masturbatory acts. This might come to you as a surprise or disgust but I'm not trying to kid around.
