1. Pack loads of Red Bull

2. Sleep in your car with window open just to let air circulate.

3. Load iPod with heavymetals.

4.Take 30min break every 3 hours.

5. Enjoy.

6. Have a safe drive.

I would also suggest scenic route through Badlands once you are in SD on I-90 . DON'T miss it. You take Exit 110 on I-90 on SD , and come out exit 131.

From my experience, the most important stuff for long drive is Red Bull.  Drink one every 6-7 hours, you'll be fine.

Chill out dai... plan to take some rest.. have a good night sleep in some motel.. don't drive more than 12-13 hours in a day... Plan to be on road early, rest while you reach Mt. rushmore/Rapid City.. Enjoy early morning sight-seeings and be on the road at time... Anyway how about momo: in my place tomorrow?

You don't need to drive all the way to Rochester if you plan driving through Sioux Falls. Instead follow (depending where you are in Minneapolis) 494 W, 212 E, 23 W and then 90 W.... or 169 S, 14 W 23 W and then 90 W..... you will save few hours following this rout.

Aalu,
Downtown is expensive with parking, most people use public transportation, which is not that bad compared to other cities. Living expenses is quiet high compared to Minn, no matter how far you go from downtown. I'd recommend you find a place with easy bus excess to downtown like Queen Ann, Ballard or U-District (a little rough, number of Nepali live there though). Do NOT live in Capital Hill or China Town, both close to downtown, but you pay the price for it, the crime rate is bit high. On the East side, Bellevue and Kirkland are better location (bit pricy)but the commute can be pain since you have to cross a lake everyday and there are only 2 bridge, they're planning to put toll (pain in the ass). Winter is long and rainy, summer is like in Nepal (no humidity unless you go towards the Eastern Washington),lots of outdoor activities-Mountians, Ocean, lakes, rain forest and many more. White, Asian and hispans but few blacks. All and all, a good place to live- Welcome to the North West.

Hey if ur by urself did u try shopping around about shipping ur car to Seattle i think its not that expensive. My friend did the same thing when he was moving from Boston he shipped his car from there and flew here and he rented a car for a week and coz it took 15days for him to receive his car here so if u dont wanna sell ur car this could be option for you.

Also check with the company u work for because sometime they do pay ur moving fees and will provide you rental car until you receive ur car.

Good Luck

Dude,

I am not familar with the area you're in and the area you're going to--I am from the Mid West--but I just wanted to wish you a wonderful, pleasant, and of course a Safe journey to your destination. As many people have suggested, don't forget to take a few cans of Red Bull--this will help you. Also, to me, Candy bars work good. So, try that as well. Last suggestion, get a good night's sleep when you take a break from your driving for the night. Don't spend the night at rest area inside your car--you need a good night's sleep after a long drive and be ready for the next long drive.

You have well wishes of people from Sajha, whoever reads this thread, so, enjoy and have a safe trip!

Alu,

I forgot an important thing. Be ready to drive on steep hills along the downtown area. It might take you off guard. If you have to stop in the middle of the hill, make sure to hit the gas real fast or else it will roll back and hit the car behind you. The trick is use the emergency brake to stop and hit the gas as soon as you let it go(syncronised), it works the best.

Drive safe and have a good trip.
