Why do you need to put whole paragraph in the title?
Anyway more than religion, I think problem is the society, what people thinks what holds the social values. They are same among every religion or nonreligious people. E.g khutta tanney prabiti.

 @khairey
You say the society is the problem but you might  be well aware that our society is very much based on our religion and its practices. The social values our society is also primarily based on religious agenda as well. Although there is the so called law against discrimination against  lower castes or towards minorities as well as women, we all know how well the law and order is in our country.
Me myself being born in upper caste, this superiority of being born in upper caste family was always engrained and repetitively enforced to my subconcious by my parents and the community. I am not saying Religion does not do any good but practically God and religion were created by "us" human , most possibly , the one of the top of social hierarchy to oppress the others. Can we not end this delusion that separates and divides ourselves among us?

 And about "Khutta tanne prabiti" , it has nothing do with ignorant and oppressive caste system based on Rig Veda which Hindus have been following blindfoldly for thousand of years now. It is more of jealous human nature. However getting rid of these stupid religious teaching will definitely help to grow a more civil and equal society which respects a human life regardless what division of caste one is born.

@NepalkoChoro
I wonder you know very little about hinduism.
I am not an expert on these topics but watching Mahabharat and other religious movies and some self research, I think you should start show some respect towards hinduism.
Thats what I learnt from this religion. We see gods in everything and we respect everything including every other religion. I believe moderation should be the essence of life and I relate Hinduism to that.
And what you suggest, stopping worshiping hindu gods, the problem of caste system would be eliminated??
Dear o dear, its not the religion thats the problem and I know you are aware of this, but just thinking what might be the catch that you are posting this thread.

FYI: Many of the societies in Africa, Middle east has seen great human carnage in the name of race and religion, though they are not hindu.

The vedic system never created the present rigid caste system of Nepal and India. The Upanishads clearly mentions the following maha vakyas:

1) Tat Tvam Asi ( That Thou art)
2) Aham Brahma Asmi ( I am Brahman)
3) Prajnaman Bhrama ( Concioussness is Brahaman)
4) Ayam atma Braham ( This self is Brahaman)

The vedic age or the Upanishadic age looked everything as Brahma ( The attributeless Absolute). In the Atharva Veda, there is a branch where it specially focuses on Women welfare, there is another branch which focuses on animals right. It clearly mentions that : Ekameva Advitiam Brahman meaning "Brahma is one without a second." The present rigid caste base system was created much later due to ignorance and not truely understanding the Veda. To understand Vedas, you must be the Vedas!

Although caste system was introduced into hinduism at a later stage, at this point, it is pretty much intrinsic to hinduism, and it is part of hinduism since it is not going away anytime soon. Due to rigid structure of society mostly because of lack of education, there are many ways in which hindu beliefs and practices harm the society in general from moving forward.

Another issue with hinduism is the respect that is demanded by elders. Hinduism teaches one to respect elders and it inhibits new younger generation with better ideas to be able to exhibit their true potentials. This is very clearly shown in politics of hindu countries, where old politicians do not let go of the reign they have by exerting the age old hindu custom where elders need to be respected by younger ones.

Let's face it, elders can *deserve* respect not *demand* it. Elders can be wrong and youngsters can be right, but due to the restrictions put by religion, younger people voice are not heard and thus age old wrong practice gets proliferated till the elders impose such power over the rest of the population.

Although the core values of Hinduism are great, it has grown up into a very restrictive and discriminatory religion specially due to people who have manupulated the core great values to benefit themselves.

It is evident in looking at Nepalese society how segregated it is due to legalization of discrimination by religion. It is customarily acceptable to look down upon people according to their birth or sex.

We as a society can never move forward with this kind of attitude unfortunately.

@arni1101 my catch is there is no god and although all religions including our own hinduism might offer some fundamental life teachings on how to live your life, i think religion has been nothing but root of societal problem.
