Oh Thanks Detroit in routing Yankees. I could not believe when I saw the final score. Verlander rolls behind Tigers' 16 runs Righty wins 14th as Detroit takes three of four from New York By Tim Kirby / MLB.com Tigers Headlines DETROIT -- This is how a team gets a roll. Justin Verlander was dominant over seven innings and the Tigers pounded Mike Mussina and the rest of the Yankees' pitching staff in a 16-0 win on Monday night at Comerica Park. The Tigers took three of four games from the Yankees, marking the first time Detroit won a series in its last 11 tries. The Tigers last won a series on July 17-19 in a three-game sweep over the Twins. It was also the first time the Tigers won back-to-back games since beating the A's twice on Aug. 11-12. Manager Jim Leyland said that the easiest way for the Tigers to break out of their August funk was to get good outings from their starting pitchers. Verlander certainly did that on Monday. His fastball topped out at 99 mph, but he also mixed his offspeed pitches in one of his best starts of the season. He allowed three hits -- all of them singles -- over seven shutout innings in earning his 14th win of the season. The offense backed up Verlander with nine hits and six runs against Mussina by the end of the third. Brandon Inge and Curtis Granderson each had an RBI double, and all but two players in the starting lineup had a hit off Mussina, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead after just three innings. Mussina was done after three innings and 72 pitches. The Tigers also roughed up the Yankees' bullpen after Mussina exited. Sean Casey hit his first triple in more than three years. Casey's triple off Sean Henn in the fifth was his first since Aug. 13, 2004, a span of 417 games. The Tigers scored eight runs off Henn in all and tallied at least one run in each of the first five innings. Inge hit a three-run double in the Tigers' six-run seventh. The 16 runs were the most the Tigers have scored this season. It was the highest-scoring game for the Tigers since they scored 18 agains the Twins last April. shirish bro, you seriously need to stop bugging me with your "there are other variables" crap ! jeez man, i get it ... been watching baseball for over 10 years now ! you think i dont know theres other teams than yanks and bosox ... stop for christs sake !!! enjoy the win of the bosox ... like i've always said, no worries, we're just ecstatic to be the wildcard... after all that the yanks have taken from morons, i think our performance after the all-star game says it all ! AX, sorry i have not really been talking to you, but yeah A-Rod is definitely doing good, crunch moments or not, he is swinging and connecting ! did u hear about he might move to the cubs and might get half-ownership ? all i know is, even if he moves, he will get a hero's ovation back in NY if ever we hear of him then, unlike the nation where the hero who probably got them the world series berth was abso-friggin-lutely booed ! haha .. anyways, I can also say go Yankees, but nevermind !!!

Congratulation to the Red Sox and their fans... I hope Red Sox Nation celebrated big time since it only comes in every 12-13 years. As a Yankees fan, I am optimistic about the ALDS matchup against Indians. All the ESPN pundits have picked Indians to win the Series. These are the same FAWKERS who said Yankees won't be making postseason in May. There is so much hype regarding how good Sabathia and Carmona are.... If I am not mistaken it's the same team who didn't win a game in 6 tries this year. Indians lost both games that Carmona started against Yankees. I have yet to hear from ESPN Pundits mentioning Sabathia lifetime record against Yankees. freak_alien, I thought players can't get part ownership in MLB. I could be wrong. I am not high on AROD or any other Yankees players who got acquired thru Free Agency or Trade. I like their Farm System guys and I want them to retain Mo, Posada and Petite even they have to pay more. This season been interesting with so many veterans they were still able to accomodate so many Young players from kennedy, ramirez and Joba. I hope Joba influenced some of my frens in Omaha, NE to root for Yankees. I want to see them wearing Pinstripes when I visit them next time What you guys think of last nite game? i don't think anybody thought Rockies were 2nd best team in NL West. Yankees ROCK source: http://www.mlb.com

nice math there ktmnepal... I hope I be alive to celebrate 52nd championship :p:p shirish dai, I hope to see Red Sox against Angels so Yankees and RedSox can matchup in ALCS. Yankees have better record against Red Sox than Angels :=) I can't comprehend why Angels have the nos against Yankees. Yankees have the best Batting Average for sometime it goes cold. I hope that doesn't hapeen during playoffs. There are lots of ppl who are tired of RedSox-Yankees stuffs but there is nothing better in baseball than Yankees vs Red Sox..... Even not meaningful games tops the ratings..... Yankees vs Red Sox is good for baseball

The Tribe's Sabathia has to pitch well and beat Yankees tonight. If Yankees win tonight, the Indians have no chance to win the series. Keep the winning streak alive Indians !! BoSox have an edge over Angels and Guererro can still prove to be effective. I heard Angels get claustrophobic at Fenway. Let it be again tonight. Let the Aces of both teams show their pitching power but BoSox must prevail. Go Red Sox !!

shirish dai I agree with you... If Indian's ace can't hold against Yankees, Indians would have tuff time getting a win.... Yankees vs Indians game doesn't start till tomo..... I never liked NL but Phillies vs Rockies will be great one. 2 hot teams past few weeks... Unlike other NL series, you may see 10+ pitchers/game on this series.... If you like Ball flying out of park this is the game you want to watch... Enjoy the games

I thought Beckett already won the Cy young award this year;p:p Yes, it's a good Q which Carmona will show up tonite... 1-10 last year Carmona or 2007 Most Improved Player candidate Carmona.....
After watching last nite, it seems Yankees lost it deliberatly.... In recent years, Yankees have lost all the series when they won the First game in ALDS... So I am taking the loss +ly :=)

Freak, I am adopting to the philosophies of Bill Belichick of NE Patriots. The past game is a history and focusing on the upcoming games. Thats why I did not comment on the BoSox's win. You got bothered with that right? You checked the postings immediately after the game and when you did not see the comments, you seemed to have gotten pissed off. Well nevermind ! I was around as you may want to confirm my presence with other Sajha postings. Matsuzaka can be unpredictable with his tosses. Fausto Carmone will not be ! Go Indians Go !!Go Red Sox Go !!

shirish dai it was few years ago I rem how disappointed were you when I said I am a Yankees fan first then a Baseball fan. I see you the same way now.. Red Sox first and baseball 2nd :=)
As your wellwisher please do not wear something that says Red Sox while travelling down south. You may bump into some jerks like in the story.

Inpast, Petite been always reliable. When Torre was always in toruble he would hand the ball to Petite. And i want him to win. He is my all time favorite Yankees Pitcher.
Go Yankees!!!
