"The moral progress of a nation can be
judged by the way it treats its animals" - Gandhi

Dear Friends,
Only history will prove how true and visionary Gandhi was when he said those words when India was fighting against the British occupation.During the struggle that nation was also fighting its own social ills.In fact British played the role of catalyst in indian fight against "Sati" system which they thought was nonsense.Just an example.
As we all know the great festival of "Dashain" is nearing. It is the greatest festival because it represents the triumph of "good" over "evil".I have no idea what "good" and "evil" we are talking about here. And,I don't think I will ever be clear on that over my life time.
There are only good memories of Dashain for us as Nepalis.Once again we are ready to celebrate Dashain like any previous year. And,of course we are going to sacrifice thousands of animals and flood our holy temples with blood.Lord Durga will be happy that we are going to do so.There will be blood everywhere.Good humans who are good and strong by nature are going to kill evil animals who are weak by nature. We will cherish on such occasion.
Nonetheless, there is an exception cow is an exception. We recieve milk from cow(and thats why its holy) but not from goat or buffalo.Wait a minute.I have drank more milk from buffalo than cow.But aren't all the mo-mos sold in kathmandu comes from the same buffalo that we recieve milk as well.Just a thought.
Why does the greatest festival of Nepal have to be the great violent celebration too?We are strong and animals aren't.We have to sacrifice the weaker ones so that we human can grow stronger.Does that represent our deepest philosophy of how we should continue to exist?Millions of sacrifices in the past and did it make any difference?Or now we have become so deeply religious that we have started to target our own fellow beings instead of animals and instead of Dashain its all year around. And that's why we have ceasefire during the time of dashain. Is Durga happy?

Animals were created by GOD so that we could consume them.
Ecosystem.
Should I draw a circle that I draw in my 7th grade?
Human killing Human is not acceptable, Human killing animals, jees, they are source of protein. It's like Lion killing a deer.

gain the same topic..

we don't bother to investigate how the chicken are tortured in their hen pen and killed before we dig into Tandoori chicken..

Now that one does it for religious purpose it become an issue..

If you have not realised most goddeses are more aggressive than their male counterparts..so another perspective cud be the idea of sacrificing goats that way give them more strenthg, the power of which protects us all..

personally i love blood sprouting out after you hack a goat...and if this thread is started by some ladies..as far as hinduism is concerned ladies aren't supposed to watch this in the first place..

In every thread I feel different favor. This thread is too white. When the millions of people are dying, starving; all they care is about cruelty animals. They support bombings and war but no animal cruelty.
Long back I read an article in bbc, which was against such rituals in Nepal. I found it really funny in the sense it was encouraging tourists not to travel in Nepal. I found it to be height of hypocracy as its ok for human starvation and death where as its not ok for these rituals.

All I am saying is, these rituals make us unique. We feed on animals. Just avoid be more organized. Thats what I wanna say.

Well typos again.

Just avoid be more organized - > Read it as:

Just avoid unhygienic approach and be more organized

Dear High,
What do you mean by too white?
I have no clue. Please be vivid. What makes us unique is not compatible with the world that we live today.Be clear whether or not you support this social revolution. We are also going to discuss issues like caste system, the incarnation of the monarchy, and why dignity matters since we are sandwiched between so called asian giants like india and china. To other folks who are following this thread I have been busy since I went to this book festival all day. Please donot hesitate to speak your mind.It matters.Try to encourage non-violence as much as you can.Be truthful cause we are in a huge task of changing the sociery.
Love you all.

iZen,

The sacrifiice of animals and cruelty against animals are different things and neither of one is in my priority list.

Peace in Nepal is in priority list. cAST descrimination is in prioirty list.

do U NEED MORE CLEARITY??

Too White means you are talking as some of white folks who support war but frown on you to know these rituals.

Dear High,
War in Iraq is a wrong strategy.I support peace and the military withdrawal. And my conscious mind tells me Bush is dumbest man that has ever ruled america.Back to sacrifice. We have to stop that millenium old thinking and move onto a new direction. We need a psychological revolution at this point. We are betterr than what our culture imposes on us forcefully.Be clear.Be proud that you belong to this new generation that works with reason.Don't be blindfolded.
White, black, yellow, brown they don't matter.Aren't we all the same after all.:).All the best.
With love,
iZen:)

iZen,

It matters. Cause I still feel the discrimination. Discrimination at work, discrimination the way people talk. You known damn well.

Even in Nepal you can feel the dicrimination. So it matters untill there is an end to dicrimination and looks at you rather than you race and color.

Back to the topic. As I said its not on my prioity list.

Dear High,
Donot ever be discouraged by some superficial treat. You are treated with the contents of your character not color of your skin.If discrimination seem to exist I encourage you to fight for your right. But do it so non-violently.Like Gandhi said:First they laugh at you, then they fight you and you win.Noone is stronger or weaker then you are.Donot be distracted from your inner beliefs.I assure you a victory.
Back to the topic. It will change during your life time.We are finally giving up those dogmatic beliefs. It is though going to be a tough road ahead.:).I am excited. Are you? Thanks our enligtened minds. We are going to be effective unlike our ancestors who simply stood with what was handed down to them.Aren't we something?:)

Dear High,I have seen numerous discussions regarding todays Nepal's politics on this website.Sadly most of them were plainly biased.Either I am for him because I am against them or either I am with them because I am against him.The height of the name-calling went in such a wrong direction that finally every political discussions had to be sidelined regardless how decent or not so decent they were. And,I wonder whatever happened to our fair-mindedness.The so called balanced discussions that encourages ideas and discourages hero-worship.
Some of the political discussions posted recently are so full of blind-worship for the authority it looks as ugly as that hooligan throwing rocks on a bus at Jamal for no specific reason.Aren't we better than that?Where is our conscious mind after all these years of schooling.Or did we just go to school so that someday we can take someone's side(monarchist, parties or the maoists)merely because we can ascend higher in society's ladder. Why do we have to blindly take sides without even knowing their real intentions? Why can't we discuss matters fairly? Why can't we put ideas before these human who love being hero-worshipped(and some even incarnation of god)?Or are we just afraid to speak our mind. Why can't we stand for ourselves?

Whateverrrrrrrr..... Didn't someone say people believe in what they believe in... So maybe somebody's God likes the idea of animal sacrifice. Maybe not justifiable, maybe not right, maybe you dont like it... but what society does not have dogmas? You live in a society... you live with the dogmas. You dont always have to like it, you can always ask why, you may wanna change it or even go against it. But if you can't, after a while, you SHUT UP or do something about it (LIKE become a pure vegetarian maybe! Because I dont care the reasons, if you still eat meat, doesn't matter why, where or for what reasons the animal was killed). Oh and not write long, pointless, useless debate about it. Cliche!!

Whateva,
Your name itself sound like an ignorant one.You probably don't care because you like dogmas. Why don't take society back to the days of segregation, sati system and all other sick ways of life which were accepatable back in the days. Why not push the world in to the dark ages?Don't be so skeptic.
P.S:You should come up with some better term than SHUT UP>It reflects you are simply too passive to discuss on the matters that makes difeerences.

I would rather eat double cheeseburger than have my folks sacrifice animals for no specific reason. To discourage violence at temples make one aggressive so be it.This is not about me making anyone happy as much as it is about giving up our millenium old thinking.
Yes original thoughts make difference than a retarded ones that simply carry on with whatever is handed down to them.

BTW whateva,
Isn't it time for you to be excited that we are also getting rid of caste system. The century old monarchy is finally giving up his "incarnation" status.Time has forced our monarchy to stand at the same level where other coomon Nepalese stand. We are getting rid of our retatrded thoughts that confine woman within the walls of kitchen. Most of them who I know are excited.
We are finally going through some sort of "Nepali Renaissance".Aren't you excited?.I am very much so.

WE SHOULD BE TALKIN' ABOUT VIOLENCE BETWEEN OUR BROTHERS & SISTERS THATS HAPPENING IN NEPAL, RATHER THAN VIOLENT BEHAVIOR IN ANIMALZ. just my opinion, cuz i don't think this violence in animalz gonna help anythin to our country or U. Dear bloodz,
You seem to be as much passionate about the topic of violence. The celebration of our greatest festival is incomplete without violence in temples.Well why would I care about cow thinking it gives me milk.Buffalo gives me milk too.How about goat?
I am not encoraging vegetarianism/veganism.I simply disagree with the "Bali" rituals.
peace out bro
