I agree with __________. The living standard and quality of life in some european countries far exceeds the one in US. In US, you work like a donkey all year long, whereas in Europe, you have 35 hours week of full-time job, good paid vacation, awesome food, and many cities and countries to visit that are rich in history, culture, art etc. Basically if you can make money like in US and live in Europe, you are in good shape. And like MatirxRose said to newuser, how can you say the entire population is arrogant just because you met one even though he or she might not be. I know how to say, 'I don't understand Spanish 'in Spanish. So if a guy starts a conversation with me in Spanish, and I say 'no entiendo espa?ol' , I don't think that will make me arrogant. I have met tons of French have lived in France in numerous occasions, and have not come to a conclusion that they are arrogant. Besides, after living in US, I sometimes think (thinking along the same line as you do) that Americans are the most arrogant people. Anyway, back to the topic. Besides if you are married and living in Europe, everyday can be honeymoon.

newsuser, i understand that parisians can be nasty but lets not generalise , the entire french population is not like that..you know theres a saying here among the non-parisians who them too are not quite fond of the parisians ..it goes : parigot , t?te de veau = parisian haru bachho ko tauko..if translated in a jpt manner..some parisians are arrogant allright but they do not represent the entire french population

Hey hurray, believe me the French hate English- both the language and the people and even the Americans. They don't want to speak English with foreigners, no matter they might like to learn the universal language. One of my friends who happen to be a French accepted the notion. They are really arrogant and want to rule the world like in the Nepoleanic era.

Newuser, Your generalization knows no bounds. And I do believe you that some french might hate Americans, but who doesn't. Come on the entire world despises them after the whole Iraq war. And you might be wrong; I think it is the Americans who want to rule the world, don't you think? Actions surely speak louder than words. Ok, define what arrogance is for me, please? Taking pride in your country, culture, language and history, is that arrogance? French surely do take pride in those. And if these do qualify for making people arrogant then, look at us Nepalis, just here in Sajha, we have tons of thread that read, 'Beautiful pictures of Nepal,' 'Nepal, the most beautiful country in the world'; and statements like, ' we never got colonized,' 'gurkhas are the breavest of the brave', and the most simple one is, in any nepali gathering outside of nepal, we always talk about nepal, comparing everything nepali with everything that is not. Is this arrogance to you? And let's no even talk about what makes Americans arrogant. (Thinking along the same line as you do).

Besides if you are married and living in Europe, everyday can be honeymoon. ....................................................................................................... You couldnt say better. By the way working hours is 37.5 no more 35. :( Besides no matter where you travel you should always try to talk their language instead of asking in English. It wont kill no one to learn foreign language. I mostly end up travelling alone, seriously a map is more than enough for me. And somehow even if you dont know a single word you still end up making friends. Europe is very friendly and people are very open minded., especially in France, German, Holland and Luxemburg.

ma ta achammai parchu french haru lai arrogant bhanda... talk to a french, tell him/her you come from nepal..they know where exactly nepal is, they never ask you whether nepal is part of dhotiland which is delightful, they know about ktms hippie days, they know about the mountains..the minute you say youre nepalese, you re immediately given positive attention...ok they tend to exaggerate their national pride but you cant call them arrogant ni..

99com007a, you are right. The general knowledge of an average european is far greater than that of an american. I have lived both in Europe and America extensively, and have met many different people. I remember having many conversations with europeans, mainly french, where I was trying to prove a point, and I was getting asked questoins from left and right, and at the end those questions made me change my mind. In other words, europeans look at something from many different angles, give a lot of thought before coming to a conclusion.

Hey guys cool down yar. It was just abt the general French dislike of the English language. It is an agreed notion. History is the reason perhaps. Probably you know about this 'Entienne Cordiale' stuff. This tradition between the English and French was started to normalise the bitter relationship between the two countries across the channel. The French indeed regret that they are no longer the same power they used to be 2 centuries ago. I know very little abt. their general knowledge though. But I have good memories of the trip to France. Specially, I have a couple of photographs with a French Granny and her 7 year grand daughter and their kitten snapped in the market of Versailles. They are some of my proud collection. I love France and the French people. And I intend to visit their again.

In every country there are so many different type of ppl. Yes , French love their language more but that is not our problem. In Germany everything is in German language. I south India, they hate hindi so much that it is very difficult to find the hindi news paper in Madras rilway station as wel as in Bangloor railway station. Loving owns language is ok as long as they dont fight. Onethiing I love about Europe is its quietness (no boasting). In average I found that americans have less IQ and less Gk. Good thing about US is they are extremely self centrist and they always want to be ahead of everyone. Because of this some ppl in US are extremely intelligent. (this can be judjed from scientific paper and the discoveries they have made. Also, Americans are very good sellar they can sell almost everything (ebay). In comparison to europe It is also easy in US to sell implement new idea. On the other hand, life in US is too much mechanised. They use energy more than necessary. For me europe is very much secured place

I heard Chancellor Schr?der is as arrogant as President Chirac. Well, you guys must agree that amongst the Europeans, French and The Germans are more arrogant than others but may be they are less arrogant than the Americans. Am I right now? What abt the Englishmen? I heard Tony Blair is very cool. :)
