found this on bbcworld.com; apparently they had a show on this yesterday .. missed it .. anyone who saw it ? comments ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Murder Most Royal Saturday 1 October @ 23:10CET Crown Prince Dipendra of Nepal ? ?Dippy? to his Eton chums ? had a difficult childhood by all accounts. His mother ruled him with a will of iron. Close friend Gautam Rana recalls: ?The crown Prince had very low self-esteem. His mother was always criticising him. She said she had to be strict with him, for one day he would be King. But she was a perfectionist ? she never let him be a child.? His father the King, an old Etonian himself, sent Dippy to the English public school Eton. Sixteen is a difficult age for any boy to be thrown into an alien environment, but Dippy used his karate skills to protect young Will Stonor from the school bullies, and the two were soon firm friends. It was at a drinks party at Stonor?s family home that Dippy was first introduced to Devyani Rana, the daughter of a Nepalese politician and an Indian Maharani, who immediately bewitched the sixth-former. He bombarded her with telephone calls ? to no avail. He knew even then that Devyani?s resistance was the least of his worries. Devyani did not accept Dippy?s advances at first; but the pair became friends and, slowly, Devyani fell in love. The couple spent all their time together and surrounded themselves by people who told them what they wanted to hear ? that they would be allowed to marry, and that they would one day be King and Queen of Nepal. In reality, Dippy?s mother had made it clear to her teenage son that he was already betrothed to a well-born Nepalese girl, Supriya Shah. The conflict between the Queen and her disobedient son was confined to Palace whispers, until June 1st, 2001, when the Nepali Times made Dippy?s private shame public. The Queen, it said, was blocking the Crown Prince?s choice of bride. Dippy?s humiliation and anger festered until, that evening, dressed in military uniform and with weapons from the royal armoury, he burst into a family gathering and shot his father in the head. The attack was no outburst of drunken rage, but a premeditated attack ? the few royals who survived the massacre have since described the way in which Dippy fired at everyone, and then kicked the bodies to make sure they were dead, before shooting himself. Now, of course, everyone admits that Dippy had always had a dark side. That he drank too much, drove too fast, and had an unhealthy obsession with guns. But no one could have predicted the events of that fateful night, or the turmoil into which the country would be thrown. The public didn?t know what to believe ? or rather, the last thing that they wanted to believe was the truth. A military coup, a Maoist attack ? any other explanation was preferable. How could they have lived with such a terrible killer in the midst and never have known? This documentary recounts the events, from massacre to royal funeral procession, and tells the story of a volatile personality who was pushed too far.

Yeah, I guess he has more than one ADCs. But we need to raise voices. The massacre like this was common in the past centuries but not anymore and it can't remain as a mystery.

There are loads of questions to be answered.....And I sure hope they will come out one day...Then the culprits' skins will be chastised severely, then salt and peppers spread in their wounds, and they will be killed by throwing stones from each and every nepali citizen who had risen to get hold of their power...THE PEOPLE POWER...I hope that day come soon...soon the better...Nepalese people deserves this at least.... Nirman...~*

I second ocean, everyone with a little bit of military backround or knowledge will simply laugh at all this. And geezzz they expected people here to believe that freaking tv show or whatever you name it. The funny thing is, he himself is making people believe it was his plan. Damn if he is sooooooo innocent why not have a gut to let people investigate to fullest, why not say the same thing with a lie-detector. I really dont know who his advisors are but one thing is sure they are simply dull or have given up. The exploding machine gun excuse has to be the most crap ever offered to a population. He is powerful just cause of the army, the army of Nepal should bel loyal to the people. I have lots of respect for military people and I really hope someday they will realise it. This simply is such a classic tragedy filled with lies, I can scarcely believe it's real, and not some made-up plot for a hollywood script. It's like Romeo and Juliet meets Hamlet with bullets.

I saw this around one and half yrs back. It is made by BBC. What himalaya178 wrote is not in the show. From what I heard from those present at army hospital the following morning, it was told that mumbadamaharani didn't even look at dipendra's face. and no one would believe ANY SON could kill their parents. About lots of ADCs being killed!! NAME ONE!!

This is a fresh new program ''murder most royal'' is a brand new program based on reconstruction of the palace massacre as described by the royal propaganda machine. May be you are talking about some old program.

Ocean - if u were really in the army and know that much about the guns he used, why dont u pls elaborate about its weight. As far as i know, he used few guns one of which could be hidden under his armpit (as seen in some photographs). You seem to have dillusions like Shyamu-the-Kid who thinks that you need to have arnold like features to carry a gun. As for your I-was-in-the-army bluff, yeah yeah yeah. You sound like one. Go on then, explain more about the guns. And as for your I-m-a-regular-reader-in-sajha-but-post-rarely, yeah yeah yeah again. Somebody was talking about accidental firing of a machine gun. I did not hear anything like that in the report. May be u did your own independenet investigation? Lots of ADCs were killed. Oh yeah? For example? Regarding eyewitnesses - The party at palace is an exclusive one, not like where tom dick and harry can enter paying $10 at the entrance. That means there are Royalpeople at the party and they are the ones who can offer eyewitness'account, for example,m Rajeev Shahi, Shruti's Husband etc. (go on and ask them). Ketaketi haru kuro bujhnu sujhnu chaina, sajha ma ayera halla garna matra janya cha. Tyahi himalaya le bhaneko jastai "floating around email"ma biswas gardai basnu, ani huncha timiharyko unnati. Good bye and good luck. I wont be replying in this thread unless i find some real and genuine questions unlike "why dont teaching hospital? why wasnt gyanne killed (he was in pokhara dude. can a son kill his parents? (in which century are u living? remember, even dhundakari killed his parenst).

And as far as leaked out reports are concerned, what better source could there be than some d, e or f or even g-grade Ranas studying somewhere in Europe and America who every now and then boast how closely they are related tothe royal family. (I am using the grade only as an example for the individuals, not to disparage the community, by the way). BTW, did u hear what Kumar Gorakh samsher had to say? Did u hear what Rajeev Shahi had to say? I am out of this thread for good now. Bekkar ma time pani waste, samaya pani barbad.

Somebody was talking about accidental firing of a machine gun. I did not hear anything like that in the report. May be u did your own independenet investigation? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hehe wasnt it me? :) anyways read here and go sue cnn now. http://archives.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/south/06/04/nepal.shooting03/index.html ''The circumstances surrounding the shootings grew murkier Sunday when palace officials said Nepal's king, queen and other members of the royal family were shot dead Friday by an accidental burst of automatic weapons fire'' Seriously, I think people just want the truth, like mentioned before better to live with a truth than a lie. No matter who killed whom, the truth lies somewhere else.

That was on the first few days immediately after the tragedy. In teh first place, RAdio Nepal and Nepal TV were not even aired. More importantly, that was even before the Investigating Commission was formed. Dipendra was still technically alive till then. What do we expect at such a time, where everything was shrouded in a thick blanket of mystery? That was the safest thing to report, in practical sense. That was true indeed becuase in Nepali accident trnslates into durghatana. Something that is not desired is called durghatana. In strict sense, that was a not a bad reporting at all. But such things as ?accidental? have not been mentioned in the report of teh commission.
