could you please care to share the criteria that were adopted for the nomination? i am quite surprised not to find names of any academicians. inclusion of the names like suresh raj sharma or minendra pd. rijal would have made the list more complete in my opinion. i am also a bit surprised not to see dr. upendra devkota's name. until few years back (before being the minister to G"s cabinet), he was pretty much in the limelight.

more seriously, i am shocked not to find my name in the list :P. perhaps i am featured in a more refined list of elite and illustrous people which is not so conspicuous hahahahaha :P

Actually this magazine asked to vote for top nepalese men in Nepal last month. That's why, this looks little bit immature and there's no criterias for this voting system. You can anyone if you like.

Loote Ji, U r right. I vote you for 50th Nepali man in the list.

I am sorry why Dr. Upendra Devkota in not in the list. May be his wife is not the subscriber of VOW magazine. I know many people vote themselves and request others to do so.
NAMABARI SUN LAI KASI LAUNU PARDAINA. Is that correct in Nepali?

Who is Upendra Devkota ? Why people consider him as somebody? So far, I have not heard or read about any of his significant contribution towards Nepal and Nepalese Society. Of course, his acquired lavish life style within a short period of time has been the talk of the town, no doubt.
If being a Neurosurgeon from Royal College of Neurologists or whatever puts him in the list , then there are many who should make it to this list.
( In Nepal, it is better to check the publishing house and the publisher's background before judging the stuff printed out on their publications)

gunyucholi,

Was your post in response to my question abt Dr. Devkota? Is he in Britain? And what happened to his wife? I know it's none of my business but I am just curious. After all, he is a public figure ( as far as I can remember, he used to be one of the most respected people in Nepal)

"being the minister to G"s cabinet"-That is why he was excluded by people. Academically brilliant bhaera pani dimmag sankera gyaane ko kaato khana gaeko le birseka hun. Astu.

I tend to agree with what rahulvai wrote about dr. devkota. he himself crucified his otherwise scintillating image by letting a fiercely talented and skillful person as he is, get manuipulated by the royals under those circumstances. else, he deserves every bit of accolades he got for what is a totally awe-inspiring life he's been living till date.

for a very normal villager from gorkha who used to go to a very normal school of his village traversing a 3-hours long trail each day without wearing slippers - a very normal nepali who saw vehicle for the first time when he came to Kathmandu at the age of 17 right after SLC, to reach to a position of one of the best neuro-surgeons of asia and the world is truly an amazing achievement by any standard. even after his short and much controversial political career, he truly stands as a role-model for the yougsters of nepal.

not meaning to demean their achievement but if people like Madan KC and Pashupati Shamsher can make it to the list, Dr. Devkota deserves every right to stand handsomely in the list of top achievers of nepal.

i don't agree . Dr Devkota don't respect his patients as i am concerned. I know he use to be famous neurosurgeon but not now. So why he should be in list.
Beside , health professional should not listen any other people beside his knowledge but he didn't do that and went with ... I know most of Bir hospital junior, senior doctors and many other staffs know better how is he and what he did in 2001 ...

Anyway he is not that what ppl here are thinking..

I agreee with both Loote and gal1. As LOOTE said about his background and achievments, before jumping into politics and maoist party, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has had comparatively (marginally) better performances than Dr. Devkota. Yasko matalab yo yadi Dr Devkota ko tyo gyaane ko kaato khaaeko kuraa laai birsera role model manne ho bhane Dr. Bhattarai ko pani ahile ko maobaad birsera rola model banaunu parne hunchha.
Moreover, we don't have to beleive or accept the data shown in the magazine. Nobody knows how the survey was conducted or the vote was collected. who were the voters? who has analysed the results with what standard procedures? Nepal ma yastai hunchha.
Nima Rumba , raaju lama ra Nirnaya bhanda ramra ra naam chaleka singers chhainan nepal ma?
saurabha jyoti bhanda usko baau rup jyoti ko naam aaunu parne hoina?

Dr. Devkota is still serving Nepal instead of giving big talk in Sajha from US. He was offered a great opportunity to work in England and other countries too. He is a bit snobbish but he is true nationalist and tried in bad time (Gyanu ko bela ma). He deserves more than this 49 list. He the best of best actually. To survive in political place like Bir hospital is not a joke. Nobody can stir him. Because, Neuro surgery department is wonderfully run by he and his team.

अर्को हावा आयो फेरि!

' He was offered a great opportunity to work in England and other countries too'

how often do you hear this crap about people in nepal who have returned from abroad for one reason or another..
उनी पक्कै पनि नेपालका एकदम राम्रा सर्जन मध्ये एक हुन। तर त्यो भन्दैमा हावादारी कुरा किन फैलाउने?

URFRENRITES, We know Dr. Devkota is still serving Nepal as one of a neurosurgeon. We know how he used to charge patient in Norvic.
May be you know! to work as a doctor in England is not as easy as in Nepal (specially for him). So what do you mean by 'Snobbish" !! What do you mean by true nationalist(forgot what happen in 2001) ?
'to survive in pollitical place like Bir hospital is not a joke" Dr. like Devkota could have been change that when he was in position but..
Many years back Dr. K. S. ( forgot his full name) was director of Bir Hospital and he was in similar kind of situation but he didn't go after politics.
"Nobody can stir him". Thats why he doesn't listen to anyone. kinda proud man (stubborn).
I fill bad when patient in bir hospital says "namaste" dr sahab and doesn't get any response from him.

Guys! Read this.( http://www.mysansar.com/?p=1268#more-1268) Majority of the Nepalese people were confused at that time. Nepalese had no belief in political paties without alternatives. We had the turmiol of Pajero culture, Dhamija Kanda, Jumbo ministry and Role of Mandales in Nepalese politics at that time. Had Gyane given some popular slagans like his father did in 20's, like land reform, back to the village campaign, Panchayats( It's still popular word in India) , he would have ruled few more years as his father and brother did for 30 years.
Not being a politician, It's understandable Dr. Devkota, too, miscalculated Gyane's coupe. Gyane also tried to exploit national figure like Anuradha Koirala also. If we can forgive Girija for what he did to most of the productive years of New Democracy when he could have done lots even not letting Maoist going to people's war,why not Dr. Davekota?
