A little over a month I posted this thread: http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=32015

Back then, I thought this was some isolated incidents that would go away on its own. Unfortunately, instead of going away, it's becoming more of a common theme in the sajha kurakani.

An individual can be bad. An individual can do condemnable acts. But we cannot condemn the whole group because of the acts of one or few people of the same group. As we look at history of our country, groups of people have been discriminated against. Kamis, sarkis and many other such castes have been segregated to never be able to live up to their potentials. In this day and age everyone needs to have the opportunity to shine at what he/she is good at. I think it is conceited and wrong for anyone to think that a certain caste should not be able to do certain things.

Most of us who visit this site are educated, yet, we take advantage of the anonimity provided by the internet to thrash other groups. Other groups which consist of individuals. Individuals who do not fit the stereotypes.

As we look back at the history of Nepal. We have always been divided into separate castes. It has always been in the rulers best interest to divide and rule. Even the British used the 'divide and rule' policy to rule over India. We have just recently earned 'democracy' (which is still in it's conception stage), and it's a perfect time for us to do away with the caste system that divides us. We, are individuals firstly, and then we are Nepalis. It's a perfect time to move on to the 21st century and do away with a tradition that tries to determine your fate according to your birth. We should judge a person by his/her individual achievements rather than branding someone according to his/her birth family.

I'm a little tired after coming back from the ANA today so please accept my apologies if I have not been very coherent. The main thing I want to say is that caste discrimination is not going to go away on it's own. We cannot simply ignore it and say that it's part of life. We have to do something about it, and we can all start by NOT practicing this in sajha. Please join me in declaring sajha a site where we do not discriminate on the basis of castes. This will be enforced. As responsible members, I hope you will help by notifying admin@sajha.com if and when these kinds of topics rear their ugly heads.

More on the ANA and more photos coming soon...

I completely agree with San, I try to ignore those threads but unfortunately there is a limit for everything to tolerate. There are numerous hate threads aimed to one or two castes and thats really make us sad as nepalese. So we should do something so that we can make sajha a hate free site for all of us. Hope each and every member of sajha realizes that and stop those threads making through here. lets join hand to hand and make sajha a real "SAJHA SITE"

I agree. It is just a waste of time to talk about caste and discrimination. Lets think that we all are nepali, a single caste.

Thank U San for your initiative. I always felt there are other important things to discuss in Sajha rather than talking crap about other castes

This was much awaited . Finally San took the initiative to deal with the 'hate' threads which had suddenly begun 'Mushrooming' all over sajha. Thanks a bunch to you as well to fellow sajhaites who had been bringing this to your attention.
Even at the dawn of a new century it is very alarming to notice such hatred amongst us -Nepalese.Why not discuss issues which would benefit us all,our country; issues that would be a guiding light, an eye opener to the upcoming generation; Or even light hearted bantering that surfaces once in a while that brings a warm smile to your face.
It's good to see that so many of us feel the same.Hope such topics are never to be seen again.
Spread Love not Hatred.

Anyway, please grow up. If you are seeking attention, there is no point on doing so as you are known here only by your nickname. Remember that's not who you are. You are the one whose final paper is due next week and you haven't even started it yet, or the coffee stain on your computer table has been there for over a month. I guess you know what I mean.

By the way, San dai, Where are my ANA pictures. Please, I would love to see one.

Sahila.

It seems like most of the hatred threads are coming from one type of casts...Its them blaming other couple casts. I don't want to name it as it will be again the discussion on racism. I love the way San put it. Lets just stop blaming each other and grow up. There are many more positive things that we can discuss here. Lets eradicate racism .. at least to start from Sajha... We have a long way to go! Thank you San.

I'm telling you all, it's coming from one guy with multiple aliases. He goes with the alias mymyselfandnepal, whose other aliases are bineet, kakababa, jayhindu, amrit joshi, and a host of other aliases. He recently started a thread threatening to kill people. I'm telling you all, if this guy is banned, I think all racist posts will go away.

Kiwigal, that's more of a global issue, we're talking about more of a localized issue of caste discrimination.

Let's THINK globally
and ACT locally

:)
