two of the over-hyped movies of the year FOR NO RHYME OR REASON (in terms of quality/content of the finished products) one is gonna be an average hit (coz of total masala, melodrama and big star cast which is gonna attract masses and few classes for the first few weeks especially since this is festive celebration time) other one is gonna be one of the disappointing flops of all time... you figure out which is which... "you don't need to overdo with promotions for quality products"

Well, I am interested in Om Shanti Om only because of the title song featuring 30 filmstars. And Saawariya being one of the first ventures by Hollywood Studios in Indian cinema.
I think OM Shanti Om is an all out entertainment full of masala, where as Saawariya is another one of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's trademark tearjerkers. Given a choice I will go to see Om Shanti Om because I seek entertainment in Indian cinema.

Well, I guess OSO was made for the masses and Sawariya for the classes. I am sure Sawaraiya will garner critical acclaim - just like Bhansali's other films like Khamoshi The Musical, Devdas and Black. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was probably his only box office Smash. In my opinion Black was a superb movie and Bhansali was able to extract the best of the acting ability from both Amitabh and Rani Mukherjee.

.Guys, Though, I am not a movie critic but after seeing "Saawariya" I couldn't resist myself to write few lines. Actually, I do love watching hardcore masala Bollywood movies and the offbeats one too.
Regardless of hype, I went for "Saawariya" for two varied reasons: firstly it was directed none other tha SLB and secondly it was the first movie ever to be produced by Hollywood (Sony Pictures/Columbia) with a 350 million USD budget. What's the outcome, a "TOTAL CRAP" and trust me guys, this movie is going to be the biggest flop of the year. I have seen SLB earlier masterpieces like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" "Khamosi" and "Black" but this movie is his not even close to any of his earlier product.
Except the newcomers (Ranbir and Sonam), this movie has nothing new to offer and its anything but a teen age love story. This is what you get when you have a bad plot, poor dialouges and a good director at his worst.
Believe me, you dont wanna spend your hard earned 10$ for such a disaster. Infact, they should pay you back for tolerating it for almost 2 and half hrs. (There was a huge clap from the audience at the end, not because it was good but finally the movie was over) My verdict: 1.5 out of 5
And for the one who said its for the classes.....duhhhhhhh

So, Sawariya is a dud. I guess that's what happens when a director of Bhansali's calibre has to work under a big hollywood studio.

tabasco, Saawariya " the first movie ever to be produced by Hollywood (Sony Pictures/Columbia) with a 350 million USD budget."
350 million USD budget = Spiderman 3 + Transformers + 2 * (Kungfu Hustler).
Are you sure about the figure? I don't even think it's the first Hindi movie produced by the Hollywood. The Guru Dutt masterpiece "Kagaz Ke Phool" was made by 20th Century Fox, and if you watch the movie again, you will notice it at the beginning -- and it's worth watching more than many times. Saawariya is the first movie produced by SONY pictures. I hope they produce more of those "Kung Fu Hustlers".
Me? The only hindi movie I really wanna watch right now is Aamir Khan's "Gajani". I guess I have to wait till the next year for that. Until then, "Eklavya" is still one of the satisfying Hindi movies I have watched in recent years.

Tabasco, you probably mean $35 Million and not $350 Million, although even $35M is a stretch.
There has never been a movie made with the budget of $350 Million. Even the mega Hollywood movie with A-list stars have the budget of not more than $150 Million. The only exception is the supposedly most expensive movie ever made, Spiderman 3, which Sony says it made for $326 Million, though almost everybody in the industry believes the actual figure was less than half of that.

$326 million for a mega-crap called Spiderman3? LOL. That movie was a total disappointment. It had so much going on in that movie that by the time the movie ended, I was totally exhausted -- and I didn't like that one bit. Actually, when the Transformers came out, it came out as a breeze compared to Spidy. Such an awesome black suit and dual personality wasted on Toby's booty Shakin'... ha!! "Dude, you got 2 hot girls in the movie, let em do the shakin' thing -- you don't jump in the territory unwarned -- People could be eatin'". Spiderman 3 will always be remembered for how they killed the amazing characters of Venom and Sandman. Sandman might get another chance, but Venom -- well he will need the spin-off -- and now, no one is interested. heeh!! btw, if the inflation is taken into account, Ben Hur could become the most expensive movie ever made. Just imagine, it took 9 months just to shoot the Chariot Race Scene. ha... 9 months? With so many extras and huge friggin' set? Just imagine that. :)
