 Hi,
My parents are coming from Nepal in Summer and they are 45-55 years old. Does anyone have any great suggestions for entertainment, places to visit and things to do while they are here in US? I live in Twin cities and I have limited ability to drive long routes (I recently got the licence). Please feel free to suggest things that are local and out of state in the midwest. I appreciate a lot!

Thanks,
rg

RG:

My few thoughts (based on my experience from last summer when my parents were visiting me for a couple of months):

Tell them to bring books and things that they could read while at home. If your dad happen to read sanskrit, he could bring few books and get tons of reading.

If they can use computer, manage one (a desktop or a laptop) so that they can watch all those nepali serials and news online for free! Teach them how to log on and play serials such as Ramayaan and Mahabharaat. they will enjoy it.

Manage a sowing machine for your mom. (Costs $40-$50 at Walmart). Teach them how to operate equipments such as stove, washer-dryer etc. and make them do some small chores (not for the sake of making them work but to make them engaged). I had great time having mom-made lunch and dinner everyday :)

You could make them plant flowers and veggies on your porch/patio if you have one. We had homegrowm tomatoes and green veggies and were awesome!

Take them for picnic and short road trips every weekend. Shopping on Malls for them to accumulate stuffs to take back is another great idea. Make them involved in selecting stuffs amd make sure they spend plenty of time in planning on what to buy for whom in Nepal (small gift items for the whole family).

If you have any close relatives at big cities such as NY, LA, manage a couple of trips for your parents so that they would see different parts of the country rather than just the place that you live in.

Good luck and have a great time with your parents.

If I have to drop my experience: they don't really care much but more. Time with you. Try to give them more time with atleast 1 whole day a week.... And also take them temple if you have one around.
As labastaro take picnic or short drive and if you can take them atleast 1 big city so that they will have some memories and story when they go back..... Z

Don't make them feel or treat them like a guest.... It hurts really bad.... I have talked with my friend's parent and they expressed how regret they were being here after the un expected bad treat from their. What I have to say is make them feel like home and give lots of luv....
Have a great time with parents enjoy
Have blessed day

I have a little different opinion. Since they're coming to AMERICA, they should experience what America offers.

* You may want to take your Dad, not Mom to Deja Vu in Downtown Minneapolis. You don't have to go with him, send him with some of your guy friends. I am sure he'll enjoy....

When My Dad was here, He asked me "Yeso Strip bar huncha bhanthe America ma yo thau ma chaina ki kya ho kancha" ? Thanks god my family has a great sense of humor....and then My friends took him to Strip Club and looks like he enjoyed a lot.

* Take them to Lake Calhoun and if your Dad Knows Fishing, its a great place for Fishing during Summer.
* Wisconsin Dells (great fun place during summer).
* South Dakota (Mount Rushmore)
* Mall of America. (Also in third Floor of MofA, there's Chipotle  )
*You can take them to Chicago Downtown and Sears Tower)
*Lake Superior (Duluth)
*Sathi haru ko Brithday Party
*Sathi haru ko MOMO Party.
*Go to Farmers' Market on weekends..You're MOM will be happy seeing Vegetables.
*Kahile kahi afu Barbeque garne ani Sathi Lai bolaune.

And Repeat...............

Purana Kagaz.
